Description
Ukeru is a crisis intervention program that offers an alternative to the use of restraints and seclusion. The program has helped schools reduce the use of restraint, seclusion, and injury. It is a behavioral and educational intervention program that is built on trauma informed care and conflict resolution as well as physical techniques that minimize the need for restraints and seclusion. Ukeru changes how we think about behavioral intervention. It is a training that helps staff recognize why an individual is exhibiting a particular behavior and how to offer meaningful intervention that includes a safe alternative to restraint.
